Stages of development

The formation of waste disposal services has a long history: It was in the middle of the 19th century that the municipal removal of garbage was gradually introduced. SULO and Veolia are in this sense the enterprises of the first rate: they followed and outlined the development of waste disposal. Meanwhile it has become evident how both enterprises have developed throughout the years. Having grown stronger they are now facing their common future.

SULO Group

1853
Setting up of the Compagnie Générale des Eaux (CGE). In the 80s the enterprise is not only specialized in water-supply but is also busy in further sectors of waste management. Therefore it is considered to be the forerunner of Veolia Environment.

1892
The metalworker Friedrich Streuber sets up the forerunning enterprise of SULO. He produces bathtubs, watering-cans and steel equipment. In 1929 steel vessels are added to that. Now the enterprise is called SULO.

1867/70
Francois Grandjouan receives an order from the city authorities to clear the streets from garbage and to recycle it. In three years brothers Soulier set up an enterprise in Rouen and Chauny which gathers, buys up and sells old rags. Both enterprises join CGE in 1980 and in 1990 correspondingly and are henceforth the forerunners of CGE in the waste disposal business.

1938
Setting up of both forerunning firms of Cleanaway. The enterprises deal with recycling products and fuse in 1978 into Sanne, Kruse & Pape GmbH & Co. (SKP). The range of services widens.

Since 1880

1953
SULO introduces the first waste disposal containers.

1912
Setting up of the Compagnie Générale d'Enterprises Automobiles (CGEA) with the view to deal with industrial means of transport, to repair and to lease them. In 1921 CGEA takes up the municipal waste disposal business. In 1980 the enterprise joined CGE under its own name.

1963
Having taken up the enterprises of Jakob Altvater, SULO is engaged in the waste removal.

1989
Development of the Mark Onyx for the branch of waste management and the cleaning services of CGEA.

Since 1989
SULO spreads its business in Europe and Asia.

1999

SKP expands in the new federal lands.

2000
